Lighting and Rendering Seminar by Marc Potocnik

Marc Potocnik, a German designer and founder of renderbaron, conducted a seminar titled “Lighting and Rendering in Cinema 4D for Product Visualization” in Singapore.

 

The seminar was jointly organized by IM Innovations and Singapore Polytechnic on 26 August 2015.

 

Marc founded renderbaron in 2001, and he has been producing high quality 3D animation and visual effects for a wide range of high profile companies, including Audi, Siemens, BMW, Nokia, and many more.  He is an authority in Shading, Lighting and Rendering using Cinema 4D.  A long-time user of Cinema 4D, Marc is also beta tester and MAXON Certified Trainer. Marc is also a speaker in international events such as SIGGRAPH, NAB and IBC, etc.

 

In this seminar, Marc shared how he used Cinema 4D to create materials for the car model used in an Audi commercial.  He explained and demonstrated in detail how he created a realistic car paint material with and without a Reflectance channel. Marc also emphasized the importance of having an efficient workflow during lighting and rendering, even without the use of Global Illumination.

 

The turnout was for Marc’s impressive talk was excellent and exceeded our original expectations.  Besides educators and students from polytechnics, attendees included industry professionals from companies such as Meiban, FOX International, Nickelodeon Asia, Walt Disney, MP & Silva, Proctor & Gamble and Abundant Productions.  

 

The seminar opened by the Mr. Chong Chee Wei, the School of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, provided a networking platform where industry players, educators and students were able to interact and mingle.
